Is Tech Overuse Fueling Teen Anxiety?
More teens than ever are facing anxiety, sleep disruption, and emotional overload — and tech overuse is playing a major role. In this video, Dr. Drake unpacks how screen time impacts the teen nervous system, why symptoms linger even when screens are off, and how INSiGHT scanning and chiropractic care help restore calm, sleep, and emotional regulation. Hey parents — if you're watching this, chances are you’ve seen a shift in your teen.
Maybe they’re more anxious, more withdrawn, not sleeping well, or constantly overwhelmed.
You're not imagining it — teen anxiety is on the rise, and one of the biggest culprits? The little devices in their pockets.
Today we’re breaking down how tech overuse is affecting the teen nervous system — and what we can do about it to help them calm, regulate, and thrive again.
Let’s paint the picture:
Your teen wakes up, grabs their phone. Scrolls before they even get out of bed.
They head to school — tech is in the classroom, in their earbuds, in their backpack.
After school? More scrolling, maybe some gaming, and then a full evening of screen-based homework.
Even when they’re not using it, they’re thinking about it — a text they haven’t answered, a Snap they don’t want to break, a post they haven’t liked.
It’s a constant state of input.
And all that input keeps the brain on high alert.
What we’re seeing is teens who are overstimulated… but under-regulated.
Their nervous system is living in survival mode.
Here’s what happens neurologically.
The constant stream of notifications, bright lights, fast-moving content and social comparison spikes activity in the brain’s limbic system — the emotional brain.
The body interprets this as stress. It kicks on the sympathetic nervous system — the "gas pedal" — the fight-or-flight response.
Over time, this becomes the default setting.
Now we see teens who:
Can’t fall asleep at night, or wake up exhausted
Struggle with motivation and focus
Snap easily, melt down, or shut down
Experience physical symptoms like racing heart, gut issues, headaches
Even when the phone is off… the nervous system is still wired.
This isn’t about discipline or laziness. It’s physiology. And it needs a nervous-system-focused solution.
So what does chiropractic have to do with all this?
At our office, we don’t guess. We use INSiGHT Scans to see exactly how your teen’s nervous system is functioning.
These scans look at muscle tone, stress patterns, and most importantly — heart rate variability, which tells us how well the brain and body are adapting to stress.
When we see signs of dysautonomia — that’s when the stress response is stuck “on” — it often traces back to subluxation in the spine.
That’s a fancy word for areas where tension, misalignment, or overload is interrupting communication between the brain and the body.
With gentle, specific neuro-tonal adjustments, we can begin restoring better regulation.
The nervous system can finally shift out of “fight or flight” — and into “rest and regulate.”
We’ve worked with so many teens who came in stuck in survival mode.
One teen we scanned had massive sleep disruptions and chronic anxiety. Within a few weeks of consistent care, not only was she sleeping through the night — she started smiling again. She had the bandwidth to handle her emotions.
Another teen was constantly irritable and overwhelmed — and his teachers noticed the difference before his parents did. His focus and emotional flexibility improved, and he even started enjoying his after-school sports again.
This is what happens when you support the root — the nervous system.
It’s not about eliminating all tech. It’s about building resilience so your teen can engage with the world in a healthier way.
So if your teen is stuck in a loop of anxiety, emotional dysregulation, poor sleep, or constant tech overwhelm — you’re not alone. And more importantly, there is hope.
At Innate, we’re here to support your teen with tools that are non-invasive, neurologically focused, and personalized to their unique scan findings.
That’s why we start with a full case history and INSiGHT scans — so we can customize care exactly to their needs.
If you're ready to help your teen shift from overstimulated and stressed out to regulated and resilient, we’d love to connect.
